FAQ and DJ Hiring Tips

Are you insured? Can you supply me with proof of liability?

YES WE ARE, for up to 2 million dollars in liability at your event.  Many responsible business owners carry liability insurance to protect their businesses and the consumer. Many locations are beginning to require proof of liability. Ask for proof of liability insurance. This is an insurance purchase and very few of your part-time DJs will even bother or know that having insurance protects not just them but also you and your guests at your event.

Will you be willing to play requests and discuss music ahead of time?

YES WE WILL!  A versatile Disc Jockey is willing to listen to your suggestions, give you feedback and play from your desired song list, will also accept the fact you may not want certain songs played and nees to have the input from your audience for a more successful party.  Of course, there are times when couples do not want requests made.  Make this known to your DJ ahead of time so that you are all on the same page.

Do you use Professional Equipment?

YES WE DO!  Ask whether your prospective Disc Jockey works with professional audio equipment. If you are not sure, ask for their equipment list and check with a local music dealer or the A.D.J.A. to verify they are using professional-grade sound gear. Remember that professional gear does not guarantee an entertainer’s talent or service level, but is simply a tool for building an exceptional event.

Do you provide backup equipment at my event?

YES WE DO!  Although equipment failure is rare, do you really want your special occasion ruined because your Disc Jockey did not come prepared? It is also important to know if your Disc Jockey has a back-up plan in case of illness or an accident. Booking a reliable Disc Jockey is a very important decision for the success of your party. Having the tools to accomplish their job is very important.  Having a back-up in the event something goes wrong is also very important.

Does the Disc Jockey know the proper etiquette for your type of party?

YES WE DO!  A professional Disc Jockey will assist you with the planning of your special day. Most professional entertainers will coordinate, emcee and provide the music that you desire. Ask if they have experience with your type of event.  You may be surprised to learn that they do not.  If they hesitate, it's best to say thank you then hang up and find another DJ.  An amateur will RUIN your party event.

How much time do you allow for set-up?

WE ARRIVE 2 HOURS BEFORE THE FIRST EVENT.  Punctuality is a necessity. Most Disc Jockey’s arrive at least one hour prior to the start time you’ve given them but sometimes this may not be enough time to load in, set up, sound check then check with you about any changes in the schedule. Your entertainer should ideally be setup and in-place before your first guest walks through the door or arrives for the wedding ceremony.

Do you provide a written contract?

YES WE DO!  It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing. Ask for a written agreement, especially if you are paying an initial retainer. The standard initial payment for entertainment services is 25%. However, there are some that do not require a deposit, like us.

Will you be suitably dressed for our occasion?

YES WE WILL!  Specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey is expected to wear for your occasion. Formal or Business Attire are the most popular forms.  If your event requires tuxedo black or white tie, add an extra suit in your tuxedo rental agreement for your groomsmen for our DJ.

Do you belong to a professional organization or trade group?

YES WE DO!  Although belonging to an organization or trade group does not guarantee the talent or professionalism of a disc jockey, it may indicate the companies willingness to network, learn and grow. Disc jockeys can learn through local chapter meetings, national DJ conventions, seminars and on-line forums geared toward the entertainment professional.

What forms of payment do you accept?

CASH.  We prefer cash due and payable the date of the event prior to the event start.  We also accept cashier's checks and Wal-Mart money orders.  No personal checks or credit cards at this time.  Save an additional 10% by paying for your event in full immediately upon signing your contract.

Can we pick the music we want played?

YES YOU CAN!  From the Wedding Prelude and Special Songs to the Grand Entrance, the Cake Ceremony, Bouquet and Garter Tosses, Couple's First Dance, the Father Daughter and Son Mother Dances and Special Requests, you will generally pick most all of the music for the event.  While we always bring a large selection on music to your event, we think that it's very important for you to feel comfortable with the songs you love best.  That's why when you read our agreement contract, you'll find that the legal stuff is all in the first paragraph.  The next 7 pages after that is all about the music that you want us to play!  Most couples do tell us what music genre to play. And we have it all including Traditional and New Age Country, Texas and Red Dirt Country, All the Pop hits from the 40s to the Present, Rock, Classic Rock, Old Skool, Urban, Hip Hop, Classical and so much more!  And as importantly, what type or the titles of songs they don't want us to play. We are professionals in the music industry.  We can make THE MUSIC happen any way you want!
Can we make a DO-NOT-PLAY list?

YES YOU CAN!  Along with a play list you can make a DO-NOT-PLAY list, including any song titles, artists, or styles of music you would not like to hear.  Our DJ’s are very strict in making sure we abide by these lists, after all, it’s YOUR wedding!

What if we want a song that you don't have?

We try to guarantee 100% of your requests as long as we can obtain it through our music provider PROMO ONLY or from iTunes! We WILL NOT download or play any music from YouTube or other online sources.  If in the rare instance it is not available, we will contact you for an alternative selection.  AND you can always provide your own music on cd, music cdr, thumb drive or phone music player for certain songs, as long as you take responsibility for the content of that song.  We like to keep our shows clean, but we have no control of that if we are handed a device and asked to 'play this song'.



Is your music clean?

YES IT IS!  We purchase our music from Promo Only, the leading DJ music provider in America.  Along with providing us with the latest hits every week, Promo Only sends us exclusive **clean** edits of popular songs that might have one or more of the seven dirty words (as immortalized by George Carlin, the famous stand up comedian from the 80s!).
We also subscribe to Ric Hansen's School Dance Network, which surveys each week's top hits and recommends which songs are safest to play in a 'family' setting and which are not.  Professional DJs should avail themselves of all the tools that the music industry offers to keep their shows of the highest caliber.  We will always do what we can to entertain your guests without offending them unnecessarily!

How many hours can the DJ's play for?

WE PLAY UP TO SIX HOURS!  Our all-inclusive wedding packages include up to 6 hours of playing time. We'll play for up to 6 hours, until the bride and groomleave for the night, no later than midnight, whichever comes first.  This works well because most banquet halls provide packages between 5 & 6 hours. After 6 hours of playing time, overtime is always available for $75 per 1/2 hour.  Many venues also have a certain time they want you to be out of the building. For example, if you've rented the room until midnight, our DJ will need to end the music at or about 11pm.  Remember that our DJs have to pack up their equipment, which takes from one half to one full  hour, depending on the amount of lighting construction used for your event.

How far in advance should we book our event?

BOOK NOW DON'T WAIT!  Depending on availability, Ceremonies and Wedding Receptions are booked anywhere between 1 month and 2 years in advance…most couples book between 6 and 18 months in advance. We perform at up to 3 Receptions a night, so the earlier you book with us the better chance you have securing the specific DJ you were recommended or referred to.  But that being said, we will always make exceptions.  It's not unusual for us to get an emergency call from a couple because their band or their DJ canceled at the last minute.  If we have an entertainer available, even if it's the night before, we'll do what we can to provide you with talent!

How many times can we meet to to plan my event?

UNLIMITED PLANNING TIMES AT NO CHARGE!  As many as you need! Most couples want to meet with in person for the initial consultation and after that converse with us either by text, phone or email.  Our questionnaire that we provide with our contract asks and answers a lot of the questions you have.  But there is no limit to the number of electronic consultations we have together.

Is there an extra fee for booking a particular DJ?

SPECIAL DJ REQUESTS GRANTED!  Although we are a multiple operator company, meaning that on any given weekend there up to three of us doing parties in the area, if the DJ you want is available for the day/night of your event and since a majority of our bookings are referral based, we do not charge any extra fee for requesting a specific DJ.  In fact, if you have seen someone perform, we’d prefer to assign that specific DJ to your wedding or party event!  However, that being said, please rest assured that whatever DJ does your wedding reception or party, they are professionals dedicated to doing what it takes to make you happy.  Each of the DJs we have has years of either radio or club or both experience and excel in reading and entertaining at weddings and parties.

Is set-up time included in your price?

YES IT IS!  There is no extra cost for setup or breakdown of equipment. We charge only for the actual time we play.
Do you charge a travel fee?

NO WE DO NOT!  If your event is within 200 miles radius of our home of operation, the answer is no, we do not charge a travel fee. However, if your are outside this area, we will add a nominal fee to cover fuel costs to your event.  In addition, if your event requires that we stay over-night, we will add the cost for food and accommodations to your price. In the event we are playing in a metro area where parking is charged for, we will also charge back this cost to you.
Typically the package you select includes all of these fees.  It is rare that we charge anything additional. 200 miles radius covers a lot of cities including all the cities you see listed here on our site that we've performed in.
Other Items to Note

  • Disc Jockey rates vary based on talent, experience, emcee ability, service, coordination, equipment needed, music knowledge, mixing ability and personality.
  • Rates for the DJ industry vary greatly, ranging from $700.00 to over $10,000.00 with an average of $1,500.00 for a 4 to 6 hour booking. The best price is not always the best deal, especially if you are planning a wedding. As a matter of fact, surveys conclude that nearly 100% of brides would have spent more money on their entertainment and made it their #1 priority in hindsight.  You might originally plan for a $300.00 to $500.00 DJ but before accepting such a low price, check their references by calling at least TEN of their previous weddings.  It's not unheard of that the sister, the brother, the family will be among the first references given.  You want a REAL reference.  We provide the last six months of weddings to our clients.  Call any you want for an unbiased and honest review of our capabilities.
  • A full-service disc jockey company will normally invest 12 to 30 hours to your special event but it may appear that you are only paying for “4 hours”. Consultations, music purchasing & editing, preparation, set-up and tear-down, education and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasion and are not seen the day of your event, but it does take time and planning to provide you the best entertainment experience.
